Qualifying a donor for your caseload is not easy. That’s why I was intrigued how Linda Bak of the SPCA/Tampa Bay did it. She did not have emails or phone numbers for six donors, so she sent this letter to each of them. Three responded! That’s pretty good. Take a read:
SPCA letter asking donor to call
Notice that Linda starts with a “thank you,” then moves to assure the donor that her giving is making a difference. Then she relates her passion for animals to the donor’s passion and states her reason for writing: to learn why the donor loves animals.
She finishes up with “I don’t have your email or phone number. Could you call me or respond in the postage-paid envelope?” Very nicely done. Try it!
